Bowling Green’s 1907 temperance fight against “demon rum” and other spirits reached a fever pitch as reporters noted more than 500 marched in a June 5 parade around the square, carrying banners and singing temperance songs.

Many came to see and hear Dr. William Turner and the Rev. Mordecai Ham, among others, as they spoke about the problems caused by alcohol. The “drys” carried the vote by 229 on June 6, leaving no place between Louisville and Nashville to legally buy a drink.
