Hot Rods take two in Lansing

The Bowling Green Hot Rods swept a doubleheader Sunday at Lansing (Mich.), beating the Lugnuts 7-0 in the completion of Saturday’s suspended game before winning the regularly scheduled game 4-1.

Shane Baz tossed five shutout innings to help Bowling Green (34-23) take the first game – part of a four-hit shutout. Michael Smith paced the offense with three hits, while Wander Franco had two hits – including a home run.

In the second game, Matthew Liberatore allowed one run over six innings to earn the win with Joel Paguero striking out three in an inning of work to earn his fifth save of the season. Kaleo Johnson and Grant Witherspoon paced the offense with two hits each.

The Hot Rods will have an off day Monday before opening a three-game series at South Bend (Ind.) at 6:05 CDT Tuesday. Right-hander Peyton Remy (1-2, 3,81) is scheduled to start for South Bend, with the Hot Rods starter yet to be announced.{&end}
