Central Hardin deals Lady Raiders first loss in nine innings

Central Hardin scored on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand Warren East its first loss of the season in a 5-4 decision Monday night in Cecelia.

Warren East (28-1), ranked No. 2 in the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association rankings, fell to the No. 5 Lady Bruins after Jeyda Bays hit a home run in the top of the sixth that forced extra innings.

Katie Gardner earned the start and went 4 1/3 innings before she was replaced by Emma Markham. The freshman pitcher scattered two hits and struck out five in the last four innings.

Central Hardin reached in the bottom of the ninth on a single and fielder’s choice to set up Eleecia Hager’s walk-off RBI single.

Warren East got on the board early with two runs in the first inning off Lucy Patterson’s double and a single from Bays.

Central Hardin took the lead with three runs in the third inning, and the Lady Raiders never moved back in front.

Lucy Patterson and Kelsey Sparks had two hits for Warren East, which wraps up the regular season against McCracken County on Friday at the Manual Softball Showcase in Louisville.
