Quarterfinals set for Region 4 tennis tournaments

Bowling Green and Greenwood will fill the quarterfinals of the boys’ Region 4 tennis tournament.

Reigning region champion Jacks Lancaster, a Greenwood freshman, won his match against Russell County’s Lucas McFall in straight sets to mark a quarterfinals matchup with Russellville senior Jacob Naylor on Monday at Kereiakes Park.

Bowling Green’s John Guthrie, the No. 2 seed in boys’ singles, also won in straight sets to meet Greenwood’s James Chen in the quarterfinals.

Bowling Green’s Curtis Lin had the upset of the day by knocking off four-seed Luke Wininger of South Warren in the second round 1-6, 6-2, 10-7. Lin will play Glasgow’s Kenyu Goto on Monday.

In boys’ doubles, Greenwood’s top-seeded team of Parker Young and Landon Gann will play the Harlan duo from Clinton County in the quarterfinals. The Gators’ two-seed team of Will Parks and Dylan Dethridge, along with three-seed Ronit Patel and Tate Sine of Bowling Green also advanced to Monday.

The Purples’ team of Andrew Law and Tucker Strow upset the tournament’s No. 4 seed in the Lessenberry duo from Glasgow in the second round, 6-4, 6-4. Law/Strow will play Owen Logsdon and Hunter Armstrong from South Warren on Monday.

On the girls’ side, South Warren seniors Natalie Noble and Sydney Cassady are going for a four-peat as Region 4 doubles champions. That top-seeded duo will play Kylee Coleman and Gabby Devore from Metcalfe County in the quarterfinals Monday at the new tennis facility at Greenwood High School.

Bowling Green’s Alex Smith and Yunni Qu will play the two-seed team of Greenwood’s Christie Lin/Kate Young in the quarterfinals.

Other girls’ doubles teams to reach the quarterfinals are Madison Feria/Jenna Rampenthal from South Warren, Allen County-Scottsville’s Taylor Carter/Abby Stamps and Logan County’s Lauren Barnes/Kara Noffsinger.

No. 1 seed Konnor Gallagher will play South Warren’s Ainsley Stobaugh in the quarterfinals of singles play. Gallagher was the region runner-up last year to Greenwood’s Mia Lancaster, whose season ended in March with a knee injury.

Greenwood’s Greer Glosick, the No. 2 seed, overcame South Warren’s Ashtyn Vandiver in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 10-7. She’ll play Glasgow’s Palmer Lessenberry on Monday. Bowling Green’s Hannah Jukes and Allen County-Scottsville’s Ella Burch and Sara Newton also advanced to the singles quarterfinals.
