The 6-foot-8 Toronto native will most likely sit out the 2019-20 season before taking the floor in 2020-21 as a redshirt sophomore.

At Nebraska, Banton will play in the Big Ten Conference. It was against a Big Ten school that Banton played the best game of his one year as a Hilltopper.

In a Dec. 29 win over No. 15 Wisconsin, Banton nearly achieved a triple-double. He totaled eight points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

Banton, who came to WKU as a four-star recruit, appeared in 31 games as a freshman with 12 starts, averaging 15.1 minutes per outing. He averaged 3.4 points, three rebounds and 2.1 assists, shooting 40.2 percent from the field and making 19 of 34 free throws.

Banton’s playing time trailed off during Conference USA play as Lamonte Bearden re-established himself as the team’s starting point guard. Banton played only six combined minutes over the Hilltoppers’ final seven games and didn’t appear in the season-ending Conference USA title game loss to Old Dominion.

Forward Matt Horton and Banton both announced last month that they were leaving the WKU program. Horton announced a commitment last weekend to Division II school Pittsburg (Kan.) State.{&end}
