The Bowling Green Hot Rods used a late rally to break out of a three-game funk and down Fort Wayne (Ind.) 5-2 on Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Bowling Green (4-5) scored three in the seventh inning to surge in front and end a three-game slide. The win also snapped the TinCaps’ four-game win streak.

“I think it is one of those games that is going to help us a lot,” BG manager Reinaldo Ruiz said. “It’s one of those games that give us that feeling we (can come from behind), start playing better and believe in ourselves.”

Fort Wayne (6-3) built a 2-0 lead with an RBI double from Blake Hunt in the second and a solo homer by Lee Solomon in the third before BG’s Osmy Gregerio – who was robbed of a homer in the first – connected for a two-run, opposite-field shot to tie the score 2-all in the bottom of the third.

It remained tied until the seventh, when the Hot Rods rallied with two outs. Gregerio scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Kaleo Johnson extended the lead with a two-run double into the gap in left-center to make the score 5-2.

Bowling Green outhit the TinCaps 5-4. Gregerio paced the offense with two hits.

Justin Marsden earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Cristofer Ogando pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Starter Micheal Plassmeyer allowed two runs and four hits over five innings of work.

“I’m very pleased with the kind of job Plassmeyer has been doing for us, and then the relievers,” Ruiz said. “They did a helluva job. That was the key for us to come back and win the game.”
