Greenwood, South Warren baseball earn District 14 sweeps

Greenwood poured on runs late in a 16-1 win Thursday to sweep its series against Warren Central. The Gators (10-4 overall, 3-0 District 14) scored nine runs in the fourth inning to end the game.

The Gators outscored the Dragons 48-6 in the series.

Greenwood did its damage on just eight hits, led by two from Mac Ausbrooks. Dell Henk earned the win from the mound with three hits allowed while walking two and striking out three.

Jordan Miller, Noah Thomas and Peyton Eversole each had a hit for Warren Central (4-7, 0-3).

South Warren 15, Warren East 3 (5 innings)

Sam Gage opened with a solo home run and the Spartans scored seven runs in the second inning to rout Warren East 15-3 in five innings. South Warren swept the series with a mercy-rule win after the first two games were decided by a combined three runs.

Logan Smith earned the win with four hits allowed in 2 2/3 innings. Sheldon Martin took the loss for Warren East (5-9, 0-3) with two innings pitched.

Gage, Trent Rice, Adam Burns and Mason Day each earned multiple hits for the Spartans (12-3, 3-0).

Glasgow 6, Franklin-Simpson 5 (8 innings)

Tanner Abernathy’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Glasgow the 6-5 walk-off win over Franklin-Simpson.

The Scotties had the bases loaded and just one out when Abernathy hit the ball to left field to score Cole Bunch.

Ryan Jones had two hits, including a home run, for the Scotties (7-5). Dalton Fiveash and Zach Sliger had two hits and Chase Wilson batted 3-for-4 for the Wildcats (8-9).

Bowling Green 3, Allen County-Scottsville 1

The Purples found some separation in the top of the sixth and held off Allen County-Scottsville for a 3-1 win.

In the first inning, Joe Howard reached on an error and scored later on Jackson Haga’s double. The Purples (9-6) carried that 1-0 lead into the sixth when they added two runs on a groundout and an error.

Colby Lafitte doubled in the bottom of the seventh to score the Patriots’ (3-10) only run. Charlie Key earned the win with four hits and one earned run allowed with three strikeouts and three walks.

Barren County 9, Butler County 2

Justin Combs had two doubles to help Barren County defeat Butler County 9-2. The Trojans (5-8) led 6-0 after three innings, scored one in the fifth and added two more in the top of the seventh.

Zach Wasson had two hits, drove in two runs and also scored twice. James Buie earned the win with eight strikeouts and five hits allowed across seven innings.

Carter Graham had three hits that included a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the Bears (8-7).

Softball

Greenwood 8, Bowling Green 0

Kayden Murray allowed two hits and the Lady Gators’ offense paced out an 8-0 win over Bowling Green. Murray walked one and struck out 11 in the shutout.

The Lady Gators (8-6, 3-1) scored in every inning but the seventh. Kaylie Allen led the way with three hits and drove in two runs. Caitlyn Oliver and Tori Dyer each had two hits.

Abigail Peay had both hits for Bowling Green (7-6, 0-1).

Franklin-Simpson 14, Warren Central 1

The Lady Wildcats knocked in eight runs in the first inning and beat Warren Central 14-1 in five innings. Franklin-Simpson totaled 16 hits, led by two apiece from Destiny Lowhorn, Sherrika Kitchens, Haley Fowler and Grace Arnemann.

Danielle Coats earned the win with one hit allowed and four strikeouts in two innings.

Maggie Mcbrayer pitched the final three innings with five strikeouts for Franklin-Simpson (9-7).

Warren Central (0-6) is winless ahead of its trip to Caverna on Monday.

Barren County 14, Monroe County 0 (5 innings)

Lillie Broady pitched a two-hit shutout in the Trojanettes’ 14-0 district win in five innings. Broady had nine strikeouts and also had two hits for four RBIs at the plate.

Madison Hagan hit a home run, Allie Anderson had four hits and Mallory Pedigo recorded two doubles as Barren County (16-2) totaled 14 hits.

Allen County-Scottsville 10, Glasgow 2

A six-run first inning led ACS to a 10-2 win in District 15 play.

Allison Byrn and Madi Gregory each hit a home run for the Lady Patriots (5-9, 2-0), who totaled 14 hits.

Byrn went 4-for-4 at the plate.

Taylor Murphy took the loss for Glasgow (3-7, 0-3).
