Western Kentucky golfer Mary Joiner earned her third top-10 finish of the season by tying for sixth Tuesday at the Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate.
The junior Joiner carded an even-par 71 in the final round at the 6,105-yard Ridgeway Country Club in Germantown, Tenn., giving her a 54-hole tally of 215 (75-69-71). That ties for the 10th-lowest tournament score by a Lady Topper in program history.
After tallying 26 pars across the first two rounds, Joiner only had seven Tuesday to go with six birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey. She had 10 total birdies in the tournament.
This is the 12th top-10 performance of Joiner’s decorated career.
As a team, the Lady Toppers finished seventh with a 903 (303-300-300) total. Penn State won the team title at 854, while Memphis’ Michaela Fletcher was the individual champion at 205.
“It was a tough week,” WKU head coach Adam Gary said in a news release. “The course was set up very challenging and the cool temperatures made it play long. I’m really proud of Mary’s comeback after her slow start to get a top-10.
“We have some work to do before conference in a couple of weeks.”
Junior Abigail Smee tied for 30th with a 228 (77-75-76) total, while freshman Lizzie Loy was one shot back at 229 (75-78-76).
Junior Bailey Tyree (80-78-77) and sophomore Megan Clarke (76-78-84) rounded out WKU’s card at 235 and 238, respectively.
The Lady Toppers will have a couple of weeks off before they compete in the 2019 Conference USA Championships on April 15-17 in Fort Myers, Fla.
