10 questions with … Abby Phillips

Current job title: Director of education at Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky.
Hometown: Hatfield, Ind., but I have lived in Bowling Green for almost 21 years.
Family: Husband of 15 years, Brandon, and two boys, Cole, 12, and Mason, 9.
The one thing no one knows about me is … I broke my neck in the seventh grade during a swim meet.
My dream job is … anything that involves me working/living at the beach.
My first job was … a lifeguard at the city pool.
The best advice I ever got was … make people earn your trust, but be loyal once they have; be the kind of friend to others that you want to have.
My hero (and why) is … my parents. They have been married for 42 years and raised three girls. As a parent myself, I know how hard it is to balance all that life throws at you, and having the experience I do now I know they did a pretty fantastic job.
If I could do it all over again, I … wouldn’t change anything. As hard as it might be not to make changes, I believe there is a plan in place even if we can’t see it in the moment. My hope would be that I’ve learned lessons along the way.
The part of my job I could do without is … while no job is perfect, I do love my job! I feel passionate about our mission and feel fortunate to work with such a great organization. I constantly tell people that I feel that this job was custom-made for me.
The one thing I always carry with me is … my phone. With two children, a husband who travels and a job that requires a lot of communication, I try not to be out of touch.
Best meal I ever had was … a prime rib dinner with 12-layer chocolate cake at Pompano’s Steakhouse in Florida.
At the top of my bucket list is … to live on the beach!
