Hilltoppers lose pair at Cox Diamond Invitational

Western Kentucky’s baseball team dropped a pair of games Saturday in the Cox Diamond Invitational, falling 4-3 to Louisiana-Monroe in the opener before losing 6-3 to Tennessee in the nightcap in Pensacola, Fla.

Against Louisiana-Monroe, the Hilltoppers trailed 3-0 before rallying for a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning and two more in the bottom of the eighth to tie it on Jake Sanford’s two-run home run.

The Warhawks regained the lead in the top of the ninth and held on for the win.

Davis Sims and Jack Wilson had two hits apiece to lead WKU.

Jacob Green took the loss in relief.

Tennessee used a six-run rally in the bottom of the second to produce all the runs it needed in the nightcap.

Sims hit a solo homer and Sanford connected on his second home run of the day in the loss.

Hilltopper starter Reece Calvert took the loss.

WKU (6-5) is back in action Tuesday at Eastern Kentucky.
