Greenwood wins home tri-meet

Host Greenwood swept a season-opening tri-meet against South Warren and Warren East on Saturday.

Greenwood’s boys tallied 89 points to top South Warren (49.5) and Warren East (32.5). The Lady Gators also scored 89 points to beat Warren East (43) and South Warren (37).

In the boys’ meet, junior Joel Muamba led the Gators with first-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles (46.47 seconds) and triple jump (40 feet, 11 inches).

Greenwood also got wins from David Odom in the 200 (25.04), Will Sanders in the 400 (54.67), Cole Jackson in the 1,600 (4:39.76), Mason Wilson in the long jump (16-08.25) and Bradley Herman in the shot put (39-09.75).

Sanders combined with Luke Rios, Zane Willgruber and Ben Patterson on the Gators’ winning 800 relay (1:39.71). Walker Goshorn, Sanders, Willgruber and Rios took first in the 1,600 relay (3:46.30). Odom, Zach Gibson, Patterson and Willgruber were first in the 400 relay (48.42).

South Warren picked up individual wins from MJ Boley in the 100 (11.99), Luke Spurrier in the 800 (2:04.18), Noah Namvong in the 110 hurdles (18.47) and Jantzen Dunn in the high jump (6-0). The Spartans’ quartet of Peter Furgal, Brian Sosa, Kyle Woodward and Spurrier won the 3,200 relay (8:44.30).

Warren East got firsts from Will Lovell in the 3,200 (11:13.48) and Matt Mellencamp in the discus (123-06).

In the girls’ meet, Greenwood’s Carly Miller scored firsts in both the shot put (31-00.75) and discus (95-05).

The Lady Gators also got individual firsts from Callie Strode in the 400 (1:08.08), Erin Heltsley in the 800 (2:49.08), Chloe Packard in the 300 hurdles (55.66) and Katie Howard in the long jump (13-08.00).

Greenwood won three of four relays. The Lady Gators’ Megan Une, Callie Strode, Amaya Salvador and Emmy Smith won the 800 relay (1:54.48). Salvador, Heltsley, Jessie Strode and Callie Strode took first in the 1,600 relay (4:41.15). The Lady Gators’ quartet of Madi Daniels, Salvador, Jessie Strode and Heltsley won the 3,200 relay (10:49.10).

Warren East got firsts from Tanaya Bailey in the 100 (13.65), Emma Steff in the 3,200 (13:02.79), Natalie Harrell in the high jump (4-06) and Rylee Fansler in the triple jump (30-02.00).

The Lady Raiders’ LaReshia Sydnor, Jaci Miller, Amiyah Carter and Bailey combined to win the 400 relay (58.41).

South Warren tallied wins by Kate Chiddister in the 200 (29.06), Ryleigh Johnson in the 1,600 (6:07.22) and Natalie Minnicks in the 100 hurdles (19.62).
