Blazers tally 4-0 tennis win over Lady Toppers

In Western Kentucky’s first home women’s tennis match since April 13, 2017, the Lady Toppers dropped a 4-0 decision to Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday in their second Conference USA match of the season.
After pushing the match back to 2 p.m. due to weather, WKU and UAB started with doubles action. In the leading spot, WKU junior Lisa Friess and sophomore Laura Bernardos were defeated 6-1 by UAB’s Alex Shchipakina and Marlene Herrmann. The Blazers’ No. 2 doubles team of Jana Hecking and Hana Sisirak beat WKU freshman Judit Gonzalez Agud and junior Lucia Diaz Saez 6-4.
In the third doubles spot, freshmen Kyla Dilger and Zeniece Charles-Hall lost 6-1 to UAB’s Megan Bertrands and Dominika Hrabalova.
Three Lady Toppers were scored in singles play. Bernardos competed at the leading spot and fell 6-1, 6-1 to Shchipakina. Friess lost 6-0, 6-1 to Herrmann at No. 2 and Dilger dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Sisirak at No. 6 singles.
WKU (0-7, 0-2 C-USA) is back in action next weekend in a three-day road swing. The Lady Toppers will first head to Northern Kentucky on Friday before traveling to Miami (Ohio) and Ball State.{&end}
