Western Kentucky’s Oliver Alexandre has earned Conference USA’s first Male Track Athlete of the Week accolade of the 2019 season, the league office announced Tuesday.

The senior earned an individual title in the 600-meter race while helping the team to another crown in the 4×400-meter relay over the weekend.

The Miami native competed in three events at last weekend’s Gene Edmonds Open – and won two of them while setting a school record and two career bests as well.

Alexandre’s 60-meter showing of 6.97 was a personal best for the senior. Alexandre grabbed a first-place finish, personal record and school record in the 600-meter race with a mark of 1:19.54.

He capped the day with another first-place finish as he was on the Hilltoppers’ top-finishing 4×400-meter relay team that ran the ninth-fastest time (3:11.47) in the NCAA to date.

Alexandre’s honor is the sixth Male Track Athlete of the Week nod collected by a Hilltopper during the indoor season since the squad joined Conference USA. The accolade is the first earned by a WKU men’s track student-athlete since Ventavius Sears on Jan. 12, 2016.
