Bowling Green – Gomer Rupert Lesch, 96, of Bowling Green, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, at The Medical Center. He is survived by two daughters, Connie Foster (Tom) of Bowling Green, KY; Nancy Lesch of Austin, TX; one grandson Michael Thomas Foster (Sarah); one great granddaughter Kinley Marie Foster; and one great grandson Ayden Thomas Foster. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Dorothy Marie Simpson Lesch, and his only sibling Joyce Blundon. A native of Buffalo, NY, he graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College and retired from the Baptist Sunday School Board (Lifeway Christian Resources) Nashville, TN in 1988 after 29 years of service. Upon retirement, he was a volunteer editor of the Minnesota-Wisconsin State Convention Baptist newspaper for 3 years. Earlier employers were radio station WEBR (Buffalo, NY) and television stations WICU-TV (Erie, PA) and WFMY-TV in (Greensboro, NC) where he was program director for 9 years. Gomer retired from the United States Air Force as a Major after 20 years active and reserve service. He saw combat duty in the Pacific as a B-29 navigator in World War II, where he was stationed on Guam. He was a former deacon chair and deacon for life at First Baptist Church, Nashville, and a former deacon chair of First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY. In his later years, he lived at Massey Springs, then at Arcadia Senior Living facility in Bowling Green. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at First Baptist Church. Private interment will occur at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Bowling Green, Gideons of Bowling Green West Camp, or a charity of choice.
