BG takes top spots in Daily News Top 10 polls

A new year sees new teams at the top of the Bowling Green Daily News Area Top 10 polls, with Bowling Green’s boys and girls teams both climbing to No. 1.

Bowling Green, coming off another Meijer Holiday Classic championship, received six first-place votes to edge previous No. 1 Warren Central in the boys’ poll. The Dragons, who received one first-place vote, dipped a spot to second.

Logan County holds at third, with Allen County-Scottsville fourth and Clinton County fifth.

Glasgow, Monroe County, Greenwood, Warren East and Barren County round out the boys’ poll.

Like the Purples, the Lady Purples earned six first-place votes to jump up from No. 2 to No. 1.

Glasgow, which beat previous No. 1 Barren County on Friday, jumped up to second with the Trojanettes slipping to third. Allen County-Scottsville, which received one first-place vote, dropped a spot to fourth with South Warren holding at fifth.

Metcalfe County, Russellville, Edmonson County, Russell County and Logan County round out the girls’ poll.

The voting panel includes Daily News sports writer Micheal Compton; Daily News sports writer Elliott Pratt; Daily News sports editor Jeff Nations; Chad Young of WKCT 930 AM in Bowling Green; Brian Talley of WFKN 1220 AM in Franklin; Joe Brunk of Sporting Times Broadcast Network; Jay Turner of WHHT 103.7 FM in Glasgow; Don Meador of The Citizen-Times in Scottsville; Tyler Mansfield of Sporting Times; and Joe Myers of WCLU 1490 AM in Glasgow.

Seven voters participated in this week’s poll.
