The one thing no one knows about me is … I am actually a very shy person.
My dream job is … exactly what I have been doing most all of my life: playing radio. I have been able to meet and work with a lot of the leaders in our industry and was lucky enough to have gotten into radio at a time when the business was a lot different, when radio people could actually entertain their listeners while having fun on the air.
My first job was … working for my dad in the coal mining business. That was actually hard work, which is probably why I ended up in radio!
The best advice I ever got was … from my dad, who told me to “always do more than is expected of you.”
My hero (and why) is … my dad, a Marine Corps veteran who was wounded in World War II. He instilled a work ethic in me. He would spend 12 to 15 hours a day working at the mine, but when he came home he was always ready to spend family time or work with the Jaycees on their civic projects. And always with a smile.
If I could do it over again … I would probably not change anything. I have been fortunate enough to be able to have a job that has allowed me time to give back to our community, something not a lot of folks are able to do.
The part of my job I could do without is … paperwork and keeping up with government regulations.
The one thing I always carry with me is … a smile and a sense of humor.
The best meal I ever had was … the first meal Lynn fixed for us after we were married. It was Cornish game hen. We referred to it as “killing dinner!” We ended up at McDonald’s.
At the top of my bucket list is … I am very fortunate that my bucket is pretty full. When I was young, we traveled as a family, and then for the 33 seasons I traveled with the (Western Kentucky University) Lady Topper basketball family, I got to visit places I never imagined I would ever see.
