A new outdoor fitness area at Preston Miller Park is scheduled to move a step closer to reality at Tuesday’s Bowling Green City Commission meeting.

On the agenda for the meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall is consideration of a $250,200 bid from Playworld Midstates of New Albany, Ohio, for the project.

The area will be designated the “BGPR Open Air Fitness Zone, according to a memo from Parks and Recreation Department Director Brent Belcher.

It will feature a 50-foot-by-60-foot rubber surfaced area for the equipment as well as a 10-foot-by-10-foot stretching and aerobics area.

Outdoor fitness equipment will include machines for chest presses, lat pull downs, bicep and triceps curls, leg presses, an ab machine, an elliptical and cardio walker, as well as other free-standing exercise equipment and another standalone fitness station.

The bid also includes installation of a bench, shade structure and at least five handicap-accessible fitness machines.

“This will ensure all users are able to achieve a high level of fitness workout, which is our ultimate goal with this project,” Belcher’s memo said.

Also on the agenda for the meeting is approval of a $298,812 bid from Civic Engineering and Information Technologies of Nashville for a citywide stormwater infrastructure inventory project.

A memo from Public Works Director Greg Meredith said state regulations require the city to “develop ordinances and practices that allow our staff to locate, track, and eliminate discharges other than stormwater in our stormwater conveyances.”

The city as a result has been working on developing a Geographic Information System/asset inventory to be in compliance, according to the memo, with the Nashville firm recommended to carry out the work.
