Mutai, Chepngeno win Med Center 10K crowns

Kiprop Mutai claimed the men’s overall victory Saturday in The Medical Center 10K Classic.

Mutai, a 31-year-old based in Sylvania, Ohio, crossed the finish line with a winning time of 30 minutes, 23 seconds. Runner-up Lazarus Yego, like Mutai a native of Kenya, was 35 seconds behind at 30.58.

Patrick Cheptoek (31:49) was third, followed by Bowling Green’s Jef Scott (32:52) in fourth and Julius Kiptoo (33:13) taking fifth.

Grand Prairie, Texas, runner Vicoty Chepngeno won the women’s overall race in 35:40. Bowling Green’s Ciara Scott was second overall with a time of 37:30. Lauren Minor of Evansville, Ind., took third in 37:46, followed by Owensboro’s Sydney Settle (39:32) and Morgantown’s Ashley Runion (39:40).

Matthew Porterfield of Knoxville, Tenn., won the men’s 10K Wheelchair race with a time of 28:18. Bowling Green’s Matt Davis (28:45) finished second.

Aerelle Jones of Nicholasville won the women’s 10K Wheelchair race with a time of 35:49.

Bowling Green’s Brandon Irvin won the men’s 5K with a time of 18:56. Alvaton’s Lucas Page (19:09) was second and Bowling Green’s Harlan Holmes (19:20) finished third.

Maggie Wolgamot of Bowling Green won the women’s 5K with a time of 20:56. Keisha Poindexter (23:43) finished second and Bowling Green’s Shanda Blair (23:57) was third.
