Warren County seeking poll workers

The midterm elections are approaching, and Warren County still needs poll workers.
“We have a few spaces left,” said Mallye Schultz, a deputy clerk at the Warren County Clerk’s Office.
And there is also a need for extra poll workers who can be ready to go.
“Occasionally we have to contact alternates, even on election morning,” Schultz said. “We’re always looking for good volunteers to put their name in.”
The need for poll workers is persistent across the state.
On Friday, Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s chief election official, encouraged voters to serve as poll workers in November. In total, about 15,000 Kentuckians are needed to help administer the election.
“We appreciate the thousands of Kentuckians who further their civic participation by serving on the front lines on Election Day as precinct election officials,” Grimes said in a statement. “It takes around 15,000 people to help staff our polling locations on Election Day, and we have recently faced shortages, so I encourage Kentuckians to sign up to help support our democratic process.”
To become a poll worker, citizens must be at least 18 years old and registered to vote in their respective county. Individuals who can’t serve include those running for office, those whose spouses or immediate relatives are candidates or those who have changed their party affiliation within the last year.
And “they have to be willing to be there all day,” Schultz said.
Training is required. In Warren County, the two-hour training is Oct. 16.
Poll workers are paid a minimum of $10 for attending the mandatory training session, and a minimum of $60 on Election Day, Nov. 6. Each county board of elections sets the rate for compensation.
