Tyree leads Lady Tops in Mobile

Western Kentucky junior Bailey Tyree fired a career-low 69 on Saturday, tying her for second individually through one round of South Alabama’s USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala.
Tyree recorded five birdies in the opening round at the par-72, 6,002-yard RTJ Magnolia Grove-Crossings Course. She’s just one stroke behind the individual leader, Stetson’s Hanna Kiefer.
WKU juniors Mary Joiner and Abigail Smee were also in the top 20 after recording a 1-under 71 and even-par 72, respectively. Smee’s 72 tied her career low.
The Lady Toppers are in sixth place with a 290 team tally, two strokes out of third place and eight shots behind first-place California Baptist (282).
The second round is scheduled to take place Sunday, with the final round Monday.
WKU played steady golf Saturday, placing fourth in the field with 63 total pars.
Sophomore Megan Clarke (78) and freshman Lizzie Loy (80) rounded out the Lady Toppers’ scoring in the first round. Sophomore Caroline Cavin shot a 78 competing as an individual.
