Peoria evens series with Hot Rods

The Peoria Chiefs had five hits in a two-run seventh inning to secure a 2-1 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods and even the Midwest League Championship Series at 1-1 on Thursday in Peoria, Ill.
The Chiefs broke a scoreless tie with two runs off Bowling Green starter Tommy Romero, who suffered the loss despite a solid effort. Romero threw six-plus innings, allowing two runs and six hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Bowling Green scored in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Vidal Brujan but missed chances to tie or perhaps take the lead, leaving runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings. The Hot Rods finished the night 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
The Hot Rods finished with six hits, two from Justin Bridgman.
The series shifts to Bowling Green, with the Hot Rods hosting Game 3 at 6:35 p.m. Saturday. Left-hander Resly Linares is scheduled to start for the Hot Rods, with Peoria turning to lefty Jake Dahlberg.
