Hot Rods take Game 1 of Midwest League Championship Series

The Bowling Green Hot Rods opened the Midwest League Championship Series with a 4-0 win at Peoria (Ill.) on Wednesday.

Bowling Green got home runs from Moises Gomez and Trey Hair, with Tobias Myers and two relievers combining on the five-hit shutout.

Bowling Green leads the best-of-five series 1-0.

The Hot Rods got on the board with a sacrifice fly by Hair in the second inning before adding three more runs in the fourth – a solo homer by Gomez and a two-run shot by Hair.

The Bowling Green pitching staff took it from there.

Myers pitched five-plus innings, allowing three hits with four walks with four strikeouts. Tyler Day followed with two scoreless innings before giving way to Matt Seelinger.

The Chiefs loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth before Seelinger got Nick Dunn to ground out to end the threat. The right-hander then retired Peoria in order in the ninth.

Both teams finished with five hits. Taylor Walls and Jim Haley both finished with a hit and a run scored for the Hot Rods.

The series continues at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Peoria before returning to Bowling Green for Game 3 at 6:35 p.m. Saturday.

Right-hander Tommy Romero is scheduled to start for the Hot Rods, with right-hander Zack Pendergrast scheduled to start for Peoria.
