Loons beat Hot Rods 8-2

The Bowling Green Hot Rods fell 8-2 to the Great Lakes Loons in the rubber match of a three-game series Friday in Midland, Mich.
Bowling Green’s Jim Haley had two run-scoring singles in the loss, as the Hot Rods finished the season series against the Loons at 7-7.

For the fourth straight night, the Hot Rods scored in the first inning. Haley ripped an RBI single on the game’s third pitch, scoring Taylor Walls from second.
Great Lakes tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Devin Mann.
The Loons took the lead for good in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run from Drew Avans, which gave them a 2-run advantage.
Bowling Green got a run back in the top of the seventh on Haley’s second RBI single of the night.
The Loons broke the game open in the seventh, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring four runs.
Bowling Green’s Paul Campbell (3-1, 3.38) took the loss. He threw five innings, allowing six hits and three runs (all earned), walking two and striking out three.

The Hot Rods will head to Dayton, Ohio to take on the Dragons in the first game of a three-game series Saturday night. Neither team has announced a starting pitcher for the game that starts at 6:07 p.m. CDT.
