Hot Rods pick up 6-0 shutout win at Great Lakes

The Bowling Green Hot Rods shut out the Great Lakes Loons 6-0 on Wednesday in Midland, Mich.

Hot Rods starting pitcher Resly Linares threw seven innings of two-hit ball and Zach Rutherford added a two-run home run to help Bowling Green get the win.

The Hot Rods jumped on Loons starter Andre Jackson in the first inning.

Taylor Walls led off with a double and scored two batters later when Carl Chester hit a triple to the wall in left-center. Chester came in to score on a Trey Hair single a few batters later. Rutherford followed with a home run to left field to make it 4-0.

Linares allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the inning, but then retired the next 18 batters he faced.

In the fourth, the Hot Rods’ Jake Stone doubled and then scored on Justin Bridgman’s RBI single.

Bowling Green added its final run on a sacrifice fly from Devin Davis, scoring Chester.

Linares earned the win. He finished with seven strikeouts.

The Hot Rods will look to win the series Thursday. Right-hander Tobias Myers (10-5, 3.50) is slated to start for Bowling Green. Great Lakes will counter with lefty John Rooney (0-0, 3.00).

First pitch from Dow Diamond Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m. CDT.
