Hot Rods earn series sweep with 8-4 win over Lake County

The Bowling Green Hot Rods earned their 10th sweep of the season Friday as they defeated the Lake County Captains 8-4 at Classic Park at Eastlake, Ohio.

The 10th sweep ties the 2013 club for the most in a single season.

For the third straight game, the Hot Rods scored in the first inning. Jim Haley hit an RBI single after Taylor Walls led off the game with a double, and it was 1-0 Hot Rods.

Lake County struck for three runs in the bottom of the second, helped by two Hot Rods errors. The Captains sent eight batters to the plate, and took a 3-1 lead.

The Hot Rods came roaring back in the fourth and fifth innings.

In the fourth, the Hot Rods scored three runs to take the lead. The big blow was an RBI double from Haley, giving Bowling Green a 4-3 advantage.

The next inning saw the Hot Rods collect four hits and a sac fly as part of a three-run rally.

Each team added a run in the ninth, making the final score 8-4.

Hot Rods starter Tobias Myers (10-5, 3.75) earned the win. He is now tied for the Midwest League lead with 10 wins. He threw seven innings, allowing five hits and three runs (all unearned), striking out four. In his last three outings, he’s thrown 21 innings, allowing 17 hits and six runs (three earned), walking one and striking out 21.

The Hot Rods head home to face the South Bend Cubs beginning Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. South Bend will start right-hander Enrique De Los Rios (1-2, 2.47) to the mound. Bowling Green has not announced a starter.
