Hot Rods batter Captains for 13-4 road win

The Bowling Green Hot Rods battered the Lake County Captains 13-4 Wednesday at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.
Bowling Green (70-38) sent 12 batters to the plate in the top half of the first inning, scoring seven runs.
The Hot Rods collected six hits in the top half of the first and chased Lake County starter Juan Hillman after just eight batters. In a half-inning that lasted 28 minutes, the Hot Rods’ Taylor Walls, Ronaldo Hernandez, Zach Rutherford, Eleardo Cabrera and Emilio Gustave each collected RBI hits, while Moises Gomez had an RBI sacrifice fly to take a 7-0 lead.
Jim Haley added two more runs in the second on a home run to left field. In the fourth, Carl Chester scored on a Rutherford RBI single, pushing the lead to 10-0.
Lake County got on the board in the bottom of the fourth and again in the fifth, making it 10-2 Hot Rods through five innings.
Hernandez added another RBI with a groundout in the sixth, scoring Walls, and it was 11-2 Bowling Green.
Back-to-back home runs from the Captains in the bottom of the inning made it a seven-run lead at 11-4.
Bowling Green added a run in the seventh on a Vidal Brujan RBI double and then in the ninth Cabrera hammered a ball to right field for a home run to round out the scoring.
Hot Rods starter Tommy Romero earned the win, throwing five innings. He allowed five hits and two runs (both earned), walking one and striking out three.
The Hot Rods will look to win the series Thursday when they start left-hander Resly Linares (3-3, 4.38). The Captains will counter with righty Gregori Vasquez (5-5, 3.59). First pitch from Classic Park is set for 6 p.m. CDT.
