Hot Rods blank Beloit

Tommy Romero tossed a complete-game shutout Thursday as the Bowling Green Hot Rods evened their series with Beloit (Wis.) with an 8-0, seven-inning rain-shortened win in Beloit.

Romero improved to 7-3 overall, 4-0 with the Hot Rods, allowing four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.12, second best in the Midwest League.

Carl Chester had three hits, including a homer, for Bowling Green (65-31 overall, 18-9 second half). Taylor Walls, Moises Gomez and Jim Haley added two hits each.

The series concludes at 7 p.m. Friday with left-hander Resly Linares (3-2, 4.04) facing Beloit right-hander Mitchell Jordan (3-2, 2.45).{&end}
