Hernandez lifts Hot Rods past Fort Wayne

Ronaldo Hernandez’s ninth inning home run lifted the Bowling Green Hot Rods past Fort Wayne (Ind.) 4-3 on Sunday in Fort Wayne.

Hernandez’s blast, his team-leading 14th of the season, broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth to help Bowling Green (59-28 overall, 12-6 second half) defeat Fort Wayne for the third straight game.

Kyle Goodbrand allowed one hit over two scoreless innings to earn the win, his first decision as a Hot Rod. Orlando Romero tossed a perfect ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Hernandez’s homer capped a four-hit day. Eleardo Cabrera had three hits and two RBIs, while Devin Davis finished with three hits. Carl Chester and Moises Gomez chipped in two hits each that were part of a 16-hit attack.

Bowling Green will look to complete a four-game sweep when the series concludes at 6:05 p.m. CDT Monday.

Right-hander Austin Franklin (5-4, 3.59) is scheduled to start for the Hot Rods, with lefty Osvaldo Hernandez (6-3, 2.00) scheduled to start for Fort Wayne.
