Former Western Kentucky men’s basketball player Dwight Coleby is set to play his first pro basketball competition Friday with the New Orleans Pelicans in the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League.

Coleby’s Pelicans squad plays its first game against the Toronto Raptors at 2:30 p.m. CDT on Friday in Las Vegas. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

The Pelicans will also face Miami at 4 p.m. CDT on Saturday (NBA TV) and Detroit at 2 p.m. on CDT Monday (ESPNU) before the playoffs begin.

Coleby is the first Hilltopper to compete in the NBA Summer League directly after graduation since former WKU guard T.J. Price in 2015.

The 6-foot-9 native of Nassau, Bahamas, played in all 38 games for the Hilltoppers in 2017-18 and made 37 starts after coming to WKU as a graduate transfer from Kansas.

Coleby averaged 11.1 points and eight rebounds per game while shooting 59.8 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line.

He finished the season with 11 double-doubles after registering just one in his first three years of college ball.

Coleby tied for seventh in WKU history for blocks in a single season with 66 and is also tied for sixth in games started in a single season with 37.

After departing Bowling Green, Coleby also represented his home country of the Bahamas in FIBA World Cup qualifying.
