Spartans rally to sweep Warren Central

South Warren fought back with 10 runs in the final three innings to sweep the series against Warren Central with a 12-6 win Thursday.

The Dragons (5-12 overall, 0-9 District 14) built a 5-2 lead by the fourth inning before the Spartans (15-9, 7-2) tied it up in the fifth.

Clay Nohel’s two-run triple in the sixth scored the go-ahead runs. Sam Gage’s sacrifice fly scored Nohel and the Spartans tacked on two more runs off an error.

Nohel drove in another run in the seventh, giving him three RBIs to compliment his 3-for-4 day at the plate. Drew Gregory had two hits and Tyler Martin finished with three for the Spartans.

Jordan Miller drove in two runs and had two hits for Warren Central.

SOFTBALL

South Warren 20, Warren Central 0

South Warren scored 15 runs in the second inning to rout Warren Central. Madison Stumbo and Ashley White each had a grand slam and Kaitlyn LaSala added a home run for the Spartans (12-4 overall, 6-1 District 14).

Alexis Helderman had three hits and a pair of RBIs. Jessica Bush, Abbey Mills and Lauren Martin each had two hits.

Pitcher Taylor Enlow retired all nine batters she faced on 28 pitches in the three-inning victory over the Lady Dragons (1-16, 0-7).

Warren East 11,

Bowling Green 0

Katie Gardner had 13 strikeouts in her return to the circle to help Warren East to an 11-0 five-inning victory over Bowling Green.

Ashton Akins had a pair of home runs and Kya Elkin added a homer for the Lady Raiders (14-2, 6-2).

Lipscomb issues WKU

4th straight loss

Lipscomb built a four-run lead Thursday and held on for a 5-4 win over Western Kentucky at the WKU Softball Complex.

The loss was the fourth straight for the Hilltoppers (26-24), who haven’t won since beating Marshall 4-1 on April 22.

The Bisons led 2-1 after the fourth inning, then added three runs in the sixth to go up 5-1.

WKU responded in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. RBI hits from Maddie Bowlds, Rebekah Engelhardt and Kelsey McGuffin made it 5-4 Lipscomb.

WKU got their first two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh but didn’t score.

WKU will host Florida International this weekend in a Conference USA series. The Hilltoppers’ lone senior, Brittany Vaughn, will be honored Saturday before a doubleheader that starts at 1:05 p.m.

HOT RODS SWEEP CLINTON FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

Clinton (Iowa) Lumberkings with an 8-3 win Thursday at Clinton.

Ronaldo Hernandez had a first-inning grand slam that helped propel Bowling Green (15-11) to its fifth straight win.

Moises Gomez had three hits for the Hot Rods, including a home run.

Austin Franklin worked a career-high seven innings. He allowed three runs and seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Bowling Green will open a three-game series at Burlington (Iowa) at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
