Graves Gilbert Clinic took the BB&T Bank Spirit of Community Award at the Volunteers in Action 29th annual Volunteers of the Year Awards event April 22 at the Bob Kirby Branch of the Warren County Public Library.
The health services company was recognized for its efforts to help such organizations as the American Red Cross, Autism and Asperger Support Group, Barren River Animal Welfare Association and the Center for Courageous Kids.
Graves Gilbert was one of four winners of VIA awards.
Bowling Green Police Department Deputy Chief of Police Kevin Wiles was recognized with the Anne Grubbs Spirit of Service Award. Wiles was honored for his volunteer service to Bowling Green-Warren County Community Education, Eastwood Baptist Church and other organizations.
The Team Spirit Award went to the Stuff the Bus Foundation. The annual Stuff the Bus event created by local radio personality Tony Rose has collected more than 100 tons of school supplies for children in need since its inception in 2006. The event has spread beyond its original goal of collecting school supplies for students in Bowling Green and Warren County to become a multicounty event. The nonprofit foundation was created to provide scholarships to local students.
The Rookie Award went to Ryan Depp, who created the Making a Difference Outreach organization that benefits The Salvation Army, the Morgantown Food Pantry, Room in the Inn and the First Saturday homeless breakfast event.
