Lady Tops drop 6-1 decision to Memphis in regular-season finale

Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team dropped its regular-season finale 6-1 Saturday against host Memphis.

The Lady Toppers finished the regular season 8-7 overall and 2-2 in Conference USA play.

WKU lost the doubles point despite a victory at No. 3 doubles as Cindy Oest and Natalia De Ugarte scored a 7-6 (8-6) win over the Memphis duo of Hannah Sohn and Katherin Cao.

In singles play, No. 1 Moka Ito earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Anki Wind for WKU’s only point in the match. The Lady Toppers’ Elpida Malamou, Violetta Shatalova and Oest all went three sets in their losing matches.

Western Kentucky has lost four straight matches.

Up next, the Lady Toppers will head to the Conference USA Tournament beginning Thursday in Norfolk, Va.
