Hot Rods’ skid reaches six

The Bowling Green Hot Rods’ losing streak reached six with a 13-2 loss to Fort Wayne (Ind.) on Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

BG pitchers struggled again while allowing at least nine runs for the third time in this skid, with opponents scoring 49 total runs in the last six games.

Fort Wayne (2-7) got the scoring started with a three-run double by Jose Fernandez in the first inning. Bowling Green (3-6) got on the board in the third when Mac Seibert doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The TinCaps steadily pulled away from there. Jalen Washington’s two-run homer extended the margin to 5-1 with a Jack Suwinski sacrifice fly adding to the lead in the fifth.

Fort Wayne blew it open in the seventh with a seven-run rally. The TinCaps sent 10 men to the plate with the big blows a three-run double from Suwinski and a two-run double by Estuery Ruiz.

The Hot Rods got a ninth-inning solo homer from Eleardo Cabrera, but nothing else.

Fort Wayne pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of eight walks.

Ruiz and Reinaldo Llarraza paced the Fort Wayne offense with three hits each. Suwinski had four RBIs, with Fernandez finishing with three runs batted in.

Bowling Green finished with nine hits, with Seibert and Carl Chester leading the way with two hits each.

Starter Tobias Myers (1-1) took the loss, allowing five runs and seven hits in four innings.

OUT OF HERE

Bowling Green pitcher Orlando Romero was ejected in the seventh after hitting Jeisson Rosario with a pitch one pitch after Rosario attempted to bunt with Fort Wayne leading 12-1.

PITCHING IN PART ONE

Romero’s ejection led to first baseman/designated hitter Devin Davis seeing time on the mound to save the bullpen. Davis tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings –allowing two hits.

PITCHING IN PART TWO

Seibert relieved Davis in the ninth and had a perfect inning on the mound, retiring Fort Wayne in order.

The series continues at 6:35 p.m. Saturday.

Right-hander Alex Valverde (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for the Hot Rods. Valverde got a no-decision in his first start at Dayton (Ohio) allowing four hits in five scoreless innings.

Left-hander Osvaldo Hernandez (0-1, 7.36) is scheduled to start for Fort Wayne. Hernandez allowed four runs – three earned – and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to Lake County (Ohio) on Sunday.{&end}
