Hilltoppers drop pair to C-USA rival Blazers

Western Kentucky’s softball team dropped a pair of games at Conference USA rival Alabama-Birmingham on Friday, falling 4-2 in the opener and 3-2 in the nightcap.

In Game 1, WKU (24-17 overall, 7-7 C-USA) produced four hits. Rebekah Engelhardt was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, and Kendall Smith added an RBI double.

Kelsey Aikey took the loss in a complete-game effort. Aikey allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits with two strikeouts.

The Hilltoppers managed just two hits in the nightcap. Brittany Vaughn was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kendall Smith added a sacrifice fly RBI.

Shelby Nunn took the loss in her complete-game effort, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits. She struck out two.

Game 3 of the series is slated for 10 a.m. Saturday at Mary Bowers Field in Birmingham, Ala.
