Looking to end its eight-game losing skid, Murray State struck early with a three-run first inning. The Hilltoppers (21-13) battled back in the second as Carter drew a lead-off walk and scored on Vaughn’s home run.

WKU added four more runs in the fourth. Carter and Vaughn had back-to-back doubles to even the game at 3-3. During Rebekah Engelhardt’s at-bat, an errant pickoff throw to third base allowed two Hilltopper runners to score for a 5-3 lead. Jordan Thomas added an RBI single.

Murray State regained the lead in the fifth, plating six runs for a 9-6 advantage. The Racers added their 10th run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Kelsey Aikey took the loss after 3 1/3 innings of work. The sophomore fell to 7-4 after allowing four runs on two hits in addition to four strikeouts.

WKU will return home this weekend to host UTEP for a three-game series. Saturday’s doubleheader will start at 1 p.m., while Sunday’s finale is slated for noon.
