Bowling Green’s Three Springs Animal Hospital took a step Thursday toward moving to a new home.
The veterinary clinic at 442 Three Springs Road received approval from the Board of Adjustments of Warren County for a conditional-use permit and a variance that clears the way for a move to a location farther south on the same road.
A conditional-use permit is required for the 2.6-acre tract near Wheatstone Avenue and Fieldstone Boulevard because a portion of the property is zoned general business. The majority of the proposed facility will be on property zoned highway business and does not require a conditional-use permit.
The animal hospital, Fieldstone Commercial LLC and Billy Bell applied for a variance of a zoning ordinance that requires an animal hospital, kennel or veterinary clinic to be located at least 500 feet from any residential district. The site plan said the new Three Springs Animal Hospital will be 414 feet from Fieldstone Farms subdivision.
The six members of the board of adjustments present Thursday approved the conditional-use permit and the variance unanimously, but the animal hospital’s owner didn’t say when to expect construction to begin on the new location.
“This was the first step,” said veterinarian Luke Griffith, who has owned the animal hospital for nearly four years. “We’ll know more about the plans in a few months.”
Another conditional-use permit approved Thursday will allow Kevin and Melissa Borders to operate a hair salon out of their home at 1740 Normal St. near Western Kentucky University. The applicants agreed that the conditional-use permit will be void if they move from the home. They also agreed to have no more than two clients present at a time, except for group events such as weddings.
Also approved Thursday was a variance for John G. and Lynn Shouse of 293 New Cut Road that will allow them to build a garage in front of their house. The variance of 78.5 feet applies to a zoning ordinance stating that no accessory building shall extend beyond the front of the principal structure.
