The Bowling Green area was recognized as one of the nation’s top areas for attracting corporate facility investment during 2017.

For the second year in a row, Bowling Green and Owensboro tied for second place in Site Selection magazine’s annual report of high-performing metros among communities with populations less than 200,000 based on total economic development projects for the year, according to the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce.

Sioux City, Iowa, topped the list with 26 total projects. While Bowling Green held its No. 2 position from 2016 with 13 total projects, Owensboro moved up from seventh.

The ranking evaluates metro areas on their ability to attract investment based mainly on a 10-factor index using Site Selection publisher Conway Data Inc.’s database of new and expanded facility announcements.

This is the fifth consecutive year for Bowling Green to be ranked as a top tier-2 metropolitan area in the U.S. The latest ranking is based on the region’s $271.5 million in capital investment and 784 jobs created last year, which represents the largest number of new jobs since 2011 and the third-largest investment in the past decade.
