Kentucky State Police and the FBI executed a search warrant Monday at the Horse Cave Police Department in Hart County.
“As part of an ongoing federal investigation, the FBI and KSP executed legal process authorized by a federal judge earlier today at the Horse Cave Police Department,” FBI Louisville Office Chief Counsel David Habich said in an email.
Habich did not elaborate.
KSP Post 3 spokesman Jeremy Hodges said the agency is “assisting the FBI with an investigation.” Hodges also did not elaborate.
Horse Cave Mayor Randall Curry said he will meet with the city’s attorney to determine how best to continue to provide law enforcement services in the city given the current circumstances.
As of Monday night, no one on the six-member department has been placed on leave as a result of the investigation, Curry said.
“This morning I was made aware that KSP and FBI are doing an investigation of the Horse Cave Police Department,” Curry said Monday. “At this point, that’s all I know. I will be following up and see where we go from there.”
State and federal authorities removed electronics and files from the police department, Curry said. Neither agency briefed Curry on the nature of the investigation.
“When they come in, they tell you the basics and they go from there,” Curry said.
Curry spoke to the city’s attorney and will meet with him again Tuesday.
“This is unknown water to him as well,” Curry said.
If the department is placed on any form of hiatus, state police and the Hart County Sheriff’s Office will provide police protection in the city, Curry said.
“I’m trying to make sure I make the right decision,” Curry said. “We will just have to work through all this to make sure we make the right decision.”
