Brian Key was at his usual spot at Lisa’s 5th Street Diner on Thursday when a reporter with Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends” stopped in to ask patrons about gun violence.
“We were very happy that they stopped by our town,” said Key, who’s at regular at Lisa’s and describes himself as a supporter of President Donald Trump.
During a live two-minute segment, “Fox and Friends” reporter Todd Piro spoke with Key and Phyllis Nalley, a retired school bus driver, about protecting schools from gun violence.
Key said he told Piro that he supports arming teachers. He doesn’t think raising the age for purchasing assault weapons is the answer.
“I don’t think the age limit of 21 is really the answer,” he told the Daily News.
Nalley said in an interview that she supports clear backpack policies and a ban on assault weapons. She also said Trump isn’t getting enough credit for his response to guns.
“I think there’s a lot of things that they’re blaming Trump for,” she said.
The segment aired Thursday morning.
