For the second time in the last three weeks, Western Kentucky women’s basketball freshman Raneem Elgedawy has been selected as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon following her first career double-double in WKU’s win over Evansville last Thursday.
The honor is Elgedawy’s second of her young WKU career and marks the first time that any Lady Topper has earned multiple C-USA Freshman of the Week awards in the same season since Tashia Brown accomplished the feat three times during the 2014-15 campaign.

Coupled with Brown’s Player of the Week honor on Nov. 13, WKU has also captured three weekly awards through the first four weeks of the season for the first time since joining C-USA.
Elgedawy reached career-high marks for both points (19) and rebounds (10) en route to her first career double-double. All five of the Alexandria, Egypt, native’s offensive rebounds turned into second-chance points for the Lady Toppers, including a pair of putbacks by Elgedawy herself.
She also matched her career high with a pair of blocks and came away with a career-best four steals against the Purple Aces. For the season, Elgedawy ranks second among all C-USA freshmen with 6.3 rebounds per game, and her one block per game average is 11th among C-USA players of all classes.
With her pair of Freshman of the Week awards, Elgedawy has also become Lady Topper Basketball’s first-ever international player to capture a weekly award.
Elgedawy and the Lady Toppers will have this week off as WKU breaks for final exams, but the team will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (CT) on the road at Southern Illinois.
