WKU’s Fant hauls in TD catch in loss to FIU

Western Kentucky senior wide receiver Nacarius Fant (Bowling Green Class of 2014) hauled in a 14-yard touchdown catch Friday at Florida International, a 41-17 loss that ended the Hilltoppers’ regular season.

In what could have been his last collegiate game for WKU, Fant finished with seven catches for 61 yards. His 14-yard TD catch in the third quarter put the Hilltoppers up 17-13, but the Golden Panthers scored 28 straight unanswered points to earn the win.

WKU redshirt sophomore running back Marquez Trigg (Glasgow Class of 2015) added two carries for four yards, plus one catch for nine yards.

On defense, redshirt junior linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe (South Warren Class of 2014) tallied seven tackles (five solo), redshirt sophomore linebacker Ben Holt (Bowling Green Class of 2015) added three tackles and redshirt sophomore defensive back Ta’Corian Darden (Russellville Class of 2015) finished with two tackles.

WKU finished the regular season 6-6 overall and is bowl eligible, but will have to wait and see if the program is offered a bid.

Kentucky redshirt sophomore linebacker Eli Brown (Warren East Class of 2015) tallied four solo tackles in the Wildcats’ 44-17 home loss to Louisville on Saturday.

Kentucky redshirt junior defensive tackle Adrian Middleton (South Warren Class of 2014) added one solo tackle.

The Wildcats (7-5) are bowl eligible and await an announcement on when and where they will play next.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore defensive lineman Damani Jenkins (Barren County Class of 2015) tallied six tackles in the fourth-ranked Blue Raiders’ 34-29 loss Saturday to visiting No. 5 Southern Oregon in the NAIA Football Championship Series quarterfinals.

The loss ended the season for Lindsey Wilson, which finished with an 11-1 record.
