“Jaylon is a great young man who made a mistake,” WKU coach Mike Sanford said during Monday’s weekly news luncheon. “He made a significant mistake. Jaylon was very good in the way he went about communicating with myself and Coach (Jimmy) Lindsey and the staff.

“There will be punishment for that and that will be handled here in the next couple of hours because more information has come back. He made a mistake and we are not accepting of that mistake and we don’t think that represents our program well and we will make sure we communicate that punishment going forward.”

The incident report obtained by the Daily News stated that officer Ed Pulley at 2:37 a.m. Saturday observed George operating a white Chrysler 200 Series vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 1600 block of U.S. 31-W By-Pass. George began pulling out of the parking lot as vehicles traveling southbound on 31-W approached the enter/exit section of the parking lot.

George pulled out in front of the vehicles in the right southbound lane, forcing vehicles to break suddenly to prevent them from striking George’s vehicle on the left side. After vehicles in the southbound lane stopped, George pulled forward a few inches, stopped quickly and started backing up back into the parking lot.

The report reads once the southbound vehicles passed, George pulled onto 31-W, then turned left on Cabell Drive at a high rate of speed.

Upon contact with George, Pulley wrote he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from his person and noticed he had red, bloodshot eyes with a glassy, gloss-like appearance.

George stated he drank one beer around two hours ago and submitted to a standardized field sobriety test. Pulley noticed George’s pupils were very dilated, and he had a very slow reaction to light and would barely constrict, and he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from his person.

George advised Pulley his shoulder and hip was sore and was not sure if he could take the balance portion of the SFST without it effecting him. George submitted to a preliminary breathalyzer test and it detected a very low presence of an alcoholic drink.

Upon request, George agreed to submit an additional advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement SFST and Pulley observed clues indicating impairment associated with marijuana use. As Pulley took George into custody, George advised he had been smoking marijuana. During a search of his person, Pulley located marijuana residue inside the front pocket of his hoodie.

George was transported to the Medical Center for a blood draw and read the implied consent. George submitted to a blood draw and was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.

George is a 6-foot-3, 275-pound junior from Atlanta. He transferred to WKU this season after playing the last two years at Northeast Oklahoma A&M, a junior college. George has recorded two tackles this season.
