WKU breaks drought with 1-0 win over FAU

Western Kentucky soccer freshman Tally Bishop scored the match-winning goal Friday in the ninth minute off an assist from Hannah Chua to give the Lady Toppers a 1-0 victory over Florida Atlantic at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The Lady Toppers (4-8-1 overall, 1-4-1 Conference USA) claimed their first C-USA victory of the season and snapped a three-match losing streak.
Bishop’s goal was WKU’s first since a 4-1 victory against Evansville on Sept. 3, breaking a scoreless drought that lasted seven matches.
Bishop led all players with four shots on the night, three of which were put on goal. Chua also tallied a pair of shots in addition to her assist, while Megan Morris and Hannah Cady also collected shots on goal.
Allison Leone collected her fourth solo shutout of the season while playing the full 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Toppers. The senior was pressed into action for just one save against the Owls’ offensive attack.
WKU will close out its weekend homestand Sunday at 1 p.m. as the Lady Toppers host FIU for their annual Kick for Pink match.
WKU VOLLEYBALL’S DEFENSE HOLDS STRONG IN WIN
Western Kentucky held Alabama-Birmingham to a .009 hitting percentage Friday night to sweep the Blazers 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) in Birmingham, Ala.
The Lady Toppers (20-2 overall, 6-0 Conference USA) have now won 16 straight matches overall. WKU also recorded its 31st straight C-USA win with the victory against the Blazers (9-13, 3-4).
Taylor Dellinger was the Lady Tops’ top offensive player Friday night, tallying nine kills at a .444 attacking clip. Alyssa Cavanaugh (.231 hitting percentage) also notched nine kills.
Jessica Lucas recorded a team-best 21 assists. Sydney Engle led the defense with nine digs, with Emma Kowalkowski adding eight.
WKU will play again at noon CDT Sunday at Florida International.
