“That’s a very good football team we just played. That’s a seasoned football program and they are hitting on all cylinders,” Central coach Joel Taylor said of Franklin-Simpson. “They’re peaking at the right time.”

He said he told his players they have to continue to fight and “improve at every practice and every game.”

The Wildcats took the opening drive and finished it with a 3-yard touchdown run by fullback Carlos McKinney. Cole Hollingsworth added the first of his six extra points on the night with 9:05 left in the first quarter.

Three minutes later, Franklin added another touchdown. This one on a 23-yard pass from quarterback Rylan Thomas to wide receiver Jevon Covington.

Hollingsworth’s PAT put the score at 14-0.

The Wildcats added a third touchdown in the first quarter on a 2-yard scoring pass from Thomas to Tre Bass.

In the second quarter, McKinney scored on a 12-yard run and Bass ripped a 49-yard scoring run. Thomas hit Collin Preston on the two-point conversion with 4:32 to play in the second quarter to give the home team a 36-0 lead.

“The kids know when a game is a bigger game, or what have you, but we just try to stick to our routine,” Doug Preston said of getting his team ready for each game. “I think we are getting better each week and that’s what we hope to do each year is get better as the season goes along. We seem to be headed on that track right now.”

The Wildcats got touchdowns in the second half from Tedric Partinger and Malik Carter.

Franklin hosts Warren East next Friday in a game that will determine first place in the district. East beat Allen County-Scottsville 17-13 on Friday night to improve to 2-0 in the district. Meanwhile, Warren Central hosts Allen with each team looking for its first district win of the season.
