East grad Tooley wins Midwest Regional golf tournament

Kentucky Wesleyan sophomore Christian Tooley (Warren East Class of 2016) prevailed in a one-hole playoff Tuesday to win the Midwest Regional at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.
Tied with Craig Stefureak of Drury (Mo.) after 18 holes, Tooley prevailed in the ensuing playoff on the 445-yard No. 18 hole when he drained a 10-foot putt.
Tooley finished with a 1-under par 143 (71-72) to earn medalist honors.
Kentucky Wesleyan finished seventh in the team standings.
The Panthers next play Oct. 30-31 in the Music City Classic at Foxlander Harbor Country Club in Gallatin, Tenn.

Eastern Kentucky senior Jared Brown (South Warren Class of 2014) turned in 23rd-place effort to help the Colonels tie for fourth overall Tuesday in the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational in Bridgeport, W.Va.
Brown finished with EKU’s third-best score after carding at 3-over 219 (77-68-74) on the 7,308-yard Pete Dye Golf Club course.
The Colonels are back in action Oct. 29-31 in the Duck Commander Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana-Monroe at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark.

Campbellsville junior Kylie Withrow (Barren County Class of 2015) produced a top-10 finish Tuesday at Thomas University Invitational at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.
Withrow tied for 10th overall with a 12-over par 156 (76-80), helping the Tigers tie for third place in the team standings with Lindsey Wilson.
Lindsey Wilson senior Shayna Cockrill (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2014) fired a 16-over 160 (84-76) to tie for 21st overall.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action Oct. 23-24 in the Nob North Invite in Cohutta, Ga.
Campbellsville plays next in the National Christian College Athletic Association Championship from Oct. 23-25 at Hammock Break Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.

Midway University sophomore Kayla Meredith (Edmonson County Class of 2016) helped the Eagles to a second-place finish Tuesday in the River States Conference Fall Preview tournament at Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union.
Meredith finished 21st overall with a 278 (93-96-89).
The tournament marked the end of the fall season for Midway.

Alabama-Huntsville freshman midfielder Annie Burd (Greenwood Class of 2017) tallied the first goals of her collegiate career in Monday’s 12-0 women’s soccer win over visiting Oakwood (Ala.).
Burd’s first goal came after she had already assisted on two earlier goals by the Chargers, as she finished off an assist from teammate Gabby Westenberger for a goal.
Burd added her third assist near the end of the first half, then tallied her second goal in the second half.
Alabama-Huntsville (5-7) hosts Christian Brothers (Tenn.) on Friday.

Campbellsville sophomore midfielder Breanna Baptiste (Logan County Class of 2016) scored a goal and added an assist in Campbellsville’s 4-0 women’s soccer win Oct. 6 against visiting Pikeville.
Baptiste tallied her first goal of the season, an unassisted score, in the first half. Four minutes later, Baptiste assisted on a goal by teammate McKayla Shearer.
Campbellsville (3-9-1) returns to action Saturday at Life (Ga.).

Bellarmine sophomore defender Donald Aviles (Bowling Green Class of 2016) picked up an assist in the Knights’ 2-0 men’s soccer win Monday over Quincy (Ill.).
It was the first assist of the season for Aviles.
Bellarmine (7-4-1 overall, 5-4-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) on Sunday at William Jewell (Mo.).

Kentucky Wesleyan freshman setter Lydia Jackson (South Warren Class of 2017) piled up 54 assists a 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 29-31, 25-21) victory over Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) on Oct. 7 in Philippi, W.Va.
Jackson’s 54 assists tied for fifth all-time at KWC for a single match. Jackson added nine digs in the win.
KWC sophomore middle hitter Sierra Morrow (Logan County Class of 2016) added 11 kills, four blocks and an assist in the victory.
Kentucky Wesleyan (9-13, 5-5 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) dropped a 3-2 (20-25, 25-26, 22-25, 25-19, 15-7) decision to Ashland on Friday in Aurora, Ill.
Jackson had 19 assists and an ace. Morrow tallied nine kills and two blocks.
The Panthers face host Quincy (Ill.) and William Jewell on Saturday.

Asbury University senior setter Rachyl Miller (Logan County Class of 2014) tallied 23 assists and four digs in Tuesday’s 3-1 (11-25, 25-17, 25-16, 30-28) loss to visiting Brescia.
For Brescia (15-11), senior defensive specialist Courtney Reels (South Warren Class of 2014) tallied 10 digs in the win. Reels added nine digs in Brescia’s 3-1 loss at Oakland (Ind.) on Thursday.
Asbury (10-5) is back in action Oct. 17 at Indiana University Southeast.
Brescia plays at Midway on Saturday.
