St. Xavier High School sophomore Drew Doyle and Elizabethtown senior Sarah Hinton have earned honors as Kentucky’s 2017 Mr. & Ms. Golf by Golf House Kentucky, the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation and the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.
Doyle edged out South Warren junior CM Mixon by five points to win the Mr. Golf Award. Mixon is one of 10 golfers named to the Boys’ First Team All-State list released Tuesday.
Doyle totaled 790 points in the system using totals from the best seven All-State Point Invitational results during the regular season along with placement in the regional and state tournaments.
Although Mixon finished third individually in last week’s state championship at Bowling Green Country Club, Doyle finished tied for fourth and had 10 top-10 finishes in invitational tournaments, two wins and four runner-up spots.
Hinton totaled 820 points a year after earning Second Team All-State honors in 2016. Hinton finished in the top 3 in six invitational tournaments with two wins and a Region 3 championship. She tied for second at the girls’ state golf championship.
Clay County senior Bailey Hubbard, the 2016 Ms. Golf, finished runner-up and 55 points behind Hinton in the final standings.
South Warren freshman Faith Martin earned 430 points with Second Team All-State honors.
The First Team players and coaches will be honored at the All-State banquet Nov. 5 at Big Spring Country Club in Louisville.
