Trigg carries load for Hilltoppers in season-opening win

Western Kentucky redshirt sophomore running back Marquez Trigg (Glasgow Class of 2015) turned in a solid effort in the Hilltoppers’ season-opening 31-17 win over Eastern Kentucky at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
Trigg finished with a team-high 61 rushing yards on 16 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Trigg also had one reception for four yards.
WKU senior wide receiver Nacarius Fant (Bowling Green Class of 2014) pulled in four catches for 32 yards, and had one punt return for two yards.
Hilltoppers redshirt junior linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe (South Warren Class of 2014) tallied nine tackles – seven solo – and had two tackles for loss against the Colonels.
Western Kentucky (1-0) is back in action Sept. 9 at Illinois. Game time is 7 p.m.

Kentucky junior defensive tackle Adrian Middleton (South Warren Class of 2014) helped the Wildcats to a season-opening 24-17 road win at Southern Miss on Saturday.
Middleton finished with five tackles, including one solo stop.
UK sophomore linebacker Eli Brown (Warren East Class of 2015) tallied a solo tackle against the Golden Eagles.
Kentucky (1-0) is back in action Sept. 9 at home against Eastern Kentucky.

Centre senior quarterback Devin Hayes (Bowling Green Class of 2014) led the Colonels to a season-opening 27-14 win over host Hanover (Ind.) on Saturday.
Hayes connected with Cody Estep for two touchdown strikes, a 10-yarder in the second quarter and a 28-yarder in the fourth.
Hayes finished with 216 passing yards on 18-of-30 passing. He also gained seven rushing yards on two carries.
Centre (1-0) is back in action Sept. 9 at home against Anderson (Ind.).

Union (Ky.) junior linebacker Anthony Kelsey (Warren East Class of 2015) made six tackles, including five solo stops, in the Bulldogs’ 55-28 win at Ave Maria (Fla.) on Saturday.
Union (1-1) is back in action Sept. 9 at Kentucky Christian.

Sewanee senior defensive lineman Clay Thistlethwaite (Glasgow Class of 2014) tallied a pair of tackles, including a solo stop, in Saturday’s 45-20 win over Kenyon (Ohio) that snapped the Tigers’ 19-game losing streak.
Sewanee (1-0) is back in action Sept. 9 at Washington and Lee (Va.).

Earlham (Ind.) sophomore wide receiver Nick Atwood (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2015) tallied a pair of tackles in Saturday’s 49-20 loss at Wilmington (Ohio).
