Greenwood volleyball beats Edmonson County

Greenwood volleyball opened the 2017 season with a 2-0 (25-20, 25-15) win at Edmonson County on Monday.

Jonae’a Blissett and Annee Lasley led the way with seven kills each, while Alexa Davis and Katie Howard added five kills apiece. Rileigh Stivers finished with 29 assists and Anna Hewitt had seven digs and four aces.

Greenwood hosts district foe Warren East at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Boys’ soccer

Warren Central 3, Apollo 0

Visiting Warren Central opened its boys’ soccer season with a 3-0 win over Apollo on Monday in Owensboro.

Fahrudin Alic, Elocho Ramazani and Kaw Wah notched goals for the Dragons, with James Khual picking up an assist.

Goalkeeper Kemal Esmic earned the shutout for Warren Central (1-0), which returns to action Tuesday at South Warren at 7 p.m.

Girls’ soccer

Warren East 4, Grayson County 0

Shelby Trent scored a pair of goals to lead visiting Warren East to a 4-0 win over Grayson County on Monday in Leitchfield.

Haley Elrod and Allison Hendrick also scored goals for the Lady Raiders, while Haley Eller and Connor Mann added assists.

Goalkeeper Cailyn Howard earned the shutout for Warren East (1-0), which returns to action Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against visiting Bowling Green.{&end}
