Lee hits five homers in Jr. Home Run Derby National Finals

Oakland native Braylen Lee hit five home runs in the opening round of the Jr. Home Run Derby National Finals on Saturday morning in Miami to kick off the MLB All-Star weekend.

Lee, a Warren East Middle School seventh-grader, needed nine homers to advance to the second round at Marlins Park. Lee won an all-expense paid trip to All-Star weekend in Florida and qualified for the Jr. Home Run Derby by winning his local championship at Ephram White Park in May and the regional derby in Chicago on June 4.

He competed in the 12U age group against seven other regional champions from across the country. Lee played first base for the Warren County North Little League All-Star team.

All-Stars win at states

The Warren County/Bowling Green Cal Ripken All-Stars picked up another win in pool play Saturday in the 12U state tournament, topping Meade County 12-0 in Elizabethtown.

Colton Edwards went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Caiden Murrell was 2-for-2 with two RBIs to lead the WC/BG squad at the plate.

Also for the winners, Chase Carver and Caleb McCoy each went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Linkin Lockhart, Preston Moore and Jared Corbett each had a hit and an RBI, and Dillon Maners added a hit in the victory.

On the mound, Keaton Watt tossed three no-hit innings with seven strikeouts and Edwards finished up with one-hit relief in the victory.

The WC/BG all-stars will face the winner of Saturday night’s Ohio County/Barren County game on Sunday in the semifinals.
