- Diane Lane appears in a scene from "Paris Can Wait."
“Paris Can Wait” has made headlines for being the directorial and screenwriting debut for 81-year-old Eleanor Coppola, the wife of Francis Ford Coppola, that it kind of overshadows the female talent in front of the camera – Diane Lane.
The Academy Award nominated actress is the perfect muse for Coppola’s project – a likable actress that keeps the audience interested throughout.

Lane plays Anne the wife of a successful movie producer (Alec Baldwin) who is at a crossroads in her life.
The spark has died down and Anne is kind of content that her life is destined to be mundane.
But when an illness forces Anne to travel by car from Cannes to Paris with her husband’s business associate Jacques (Arnaud Viard), Anne begins to re-evaluate her life while enjoying a journey full of food, wine, and scenic country sides.
Coppola’s film meanders along at a pleasant pace, allowing the audience to really get to know Jacques and Anne. Some might find the pacing a bit slow, with the film almost playing like a travel log for France, but Lane and Viard are so interesting that it held my attention.
Lane continues to pick interesting characters, with the 52-year-old actress remaining one of Hollywood’s most fascinating actresses. Even when the material is subpar Lane finds a way to make it work.
That’s not the case with “Paris Can Wait,” which although is somewhat predictable is still passable. But Lane’s presence makes it a little more than that, a nice quiet adult diversion in a summer full of explosions.
